Brand Bosch
Heated exhaust gas oxygen (HEGO) sensor, rear (post-catalyst) position, for the 4.4L V8 petrol engine (M62 B44).

The sensor sits in the exhaust downstream of the catalytic converter and monitors the oxygen content of the gas leaving it. Comparing this signal against that of the front sensor lets the engine control module assess catalyst conversion efficiency and apply a slow correction to the fuelling trims. An integral heater element brings the sensing tip to operating temperature quickly after a cold start.

The engine carries one rear sensor per bank. A failed sensor typically shows as a catalyst-efficiency or sensor-circuit fault code and an emissions test failure rather than a driveability complaint.

Frequently asked questions

What does this oxygen sensor do on the 4.4 V8?
This oxygen sensor (HEGO) measures oxygen in the exhaust on the Range Rover L322 4.4 V8 (M62 B44 BMW engine), so the ECU can trim the fuel mixture. It's a Bosch sensor. Keeping it working maintains correct fuelling, emissions and fuel economy.
Where is this sensor fitted?
This is an exhaust oxygen sensor for the Range Rover L322 4.4 M62 V8, threaded into the exhaust. The M62 V8 runs multiple lambda sensors before and after the catalysts, so confirm the position you need before ordering. This is the HEGO-type Bosch unit.
What are the signs of a failing oxygen sensor?
A failing oxygen sensor typically shows as a check-engine light, poor fuel economy, rough running or a lambda fault code on the L322 4.4 V8. A lazy or dead sensor lets the mixture drift rich or lean. Replacing it restores correct fuelling and clears the fault.
