Lambda Sensor - Front (pre-catalyst oxygen sensor) for the exhaust and engine management system of the 4.2L V8 Supercharged and 4.4L V8 petrol engines.
The sensor is fitted upstream of the catalytic converter and measures residual oxygen in the exhaust gas. Its output is the closed-loop feedback signal the engine control module uses to hold the air/fuel mixture at stoichiometric, which governs both catalyst conversion efficiency and fuel consumption.
The unit is heated, allowing closed-loop control to start shortly after a cold start. A sluggish or contaminated sensor typically presents as raised fuel consumption, rough running or a fuel-trim fault code. It is not serviceable and is replaced complete.
