J Bolt for the battery clamp - battery mounting and hold-down.

The hooked end of the bolt engages the battery tray or platform and the threaded end passes up through the clamp bar, drawing the bar down onto the battery case so the battery is held firm against vibration and cannot shift in service.

The fixing sits in a corrosive area: threads exposed to electrolyte vapour corrode and seize, so the J bolt is commonly renewed rather than reused when a battery is changed.
