Frequently asked questions

What does the PRC6574 ignition coil do?
The PRC6574 ignition coil steps battery voltage up to the high voltage needed to fire the spark plugs on the V8 Land Rover Defender, Discovery 1, and Range Rover Classic. It feeds the distributor, which sends the spark to each cylinder in turn.
Which V8 models does this coil fit?
This ignition coil fits the distributor-ignition V8s: the Defender 3.5 V8 twin carb, the Discovery 1 V8 EFI (VIN FA393361 to WA799999), and the Range Rover Classic V8. It's a Bosch-type coil and is typically interchangeable with the equivalent Lucas unit on these engines.
What are the signs of a failing ignition coil?
Signs include misfiring, difficulty starting, cutting out when hot, or no spark at all on these V8 engines. Ignition coils typically break down internally with age and heat. Because a single coil feeds the whole distributor, a failing one affects the whole engine, so replacement restores reliable running.
