Lower Steering Shaft is the intermediate shaft assembly between the base of the steering column and the steering box.

It transmits steering input from the column down to the steering gear input shaft, its universal joints accommodating the angular offset between the two. Wear in the joints shows up as free play at the steering wheel and as a knock felt through the rim when changing direction.

Supplied as a complete assembly with its universal joints fitted.

Frequently asked questions

What is the QME500190 lower steering shaft?
The QME500190 lower steering shaft, or intermediate shaft, links the steering column to the steering box on the Range Rover P38. It transfers steering wheel rotation down to the steering gear.
Which vehicle does it fit?
It fits the Range Rover P38 (1994-2001). It's the lower intermediate steering shaft assembly between the column and the steering box.
What are the signs of a worn steering shaft?
Typically play, notchiness or knocking felt through the steering wheel, usually from worn universal joints. A worn lower shaft dulls steering feel, so replace it if the joints are loose.
