Power Steering Pump Assembly is the belt-driven hydraulic pump of the power steering circuit.

Driven from the engine accessory belt, it draws fluid from the reservoir and delivers pressurised flow to the steering gear, with an integral flow control and pressure relief valve regulating output across the engine speed range. Fitted to the M57 six-cylinder turbo diesel.

A whine that rises and falls with engine speed, steering that goes heavy at parking speeds, or fluid contamination following a hose failure are the usual reasons for replacement. The system must be bled after fitting and the fluid specification checked against the reservoir marking.
