Hex Socket Screw, M8 x 20 - hexagon socket head fixing screw.

Used on diesel engine installations at points where a conventional hexagon head cannot be reached with a spanner or socket, principally turbocharger fixings, exhaust gas recirculation pipework and valve pipe flanges. The internal hex drive allows the screw to be tightened in the confined space between the turbocharger, manifold and bulkhead.

These screws operate at high temperature and are subject to repeated heat cycling. The drive recess fills with carbon and corrosion, which frequently rounds out on removal, so renewal rather than reuse is normal practice whenever the pipework is disturbed.
