Fuel Shut-Off Solenoid for the rotary fuel injection pump on the 2.5L 300 TDi turbo diesel engine.

The solenoid threads into the pump head and controls the fuel passage feeding the high-pressure rotor. It is energised when the ignition is switched on, opening the passage so the pump can deliver fuel; switching the ignition off de-energises the coil and the spring-loaded plunger closes the passage, cutting delivery and stopping the engine.

A failed solenoid, a corroded feed wire or a poor earth typically shows as an engine that cranks normally but will not start, or one that will not shut down on the key. The solenoid seals to the pump body with an O-ring, which should be renewed on refitting.
