Door Latch Square Shaft - square-section operating shaft linking the rear end door handle to the latch mechanism.

The shaft transmits handle rotation directly to the latch, releasing the claw from the striker when the handle is turned. Its square cross-section keys into both the handle spindle and the latch drive so that movement is transferred without slip. Wear or twisting of the shaft allows the handle to rotate without fully releasing the latch.
