Universal Joint - replacement universal joint for wide angle and double cardan propshaft assemblies in the driveline.

Sits between the propshaft yokes and lets the shaft transmit drive across the angular offset between the transfer box output and the axle pinion flange. A double cardan head carries two joints in series at the gearbox end, splitting the total angle between them, which is what allows the steeper propshaft angles produced by a suspension lift to be run without the speed fluctuation a single joint would introduce.

A worn joint shows as driveline vibration, a clunk on take-up of drive, or perceptible play when the yoke is twisted by hand. Because the two joints in a double cardan head share the same duty cycle, inspect the companion joint whenever one is renewed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the TFPUJ universal joint used for?
The TFPUJ universal joint transmits drive across the angular offset in a propshaft, sitting between the shaft yokes on Terrafirma wide angle and double cardan prop shafts. It lets the propshaft turn power through a bend without binding, typically on lifted Land Rover Defender applications up to 2016.
Where does this joint sit in a double cardan propshaft?
In a double cardan propshaft the joint sits at the gearbox end, where two joints run in series in the same head. They split the total working angle between them, which is what lets the steeper propshaft angles from a suspension lift run without the speed fluctuation a single joint would cause.
What are the signs a propshaft universal joint needs replacing?
A worn universal joint typically shows as driveline vibration, a clunk when drive takes up, or noticeable play when you twist the yoke by hand. Left unchecked the joint can seize or fail completely, so it is usually renewed once any of these symptoms appear.
Should I replace both joints in a double cardan head together?
Replacing both joints together is usually the sensible approach. The two joints in a double cardan head share the same duty cycle, so when one is worn the companion is typically close behind. Inspect and renew the second joint whenever the first is changed to avoid a repeat strip-down.
