Genuine Part
Genuine: Original manufacturer part. This product is the original part designed and produced by the vehicle manufacturer.
Relay is a 12V 40 A normally open (make-contact) relay used across the body and engine electrical circuits.

Energising the control coil closes the main contacts, so a switch or control module can operate a high-current load - condenser fan, fuel pump, horn, heated front screen, auxiliary lamp and ABS valve circuits among them - without the switching circuit carrying the load current.

It plugs into a standard relay base in the fuse and relay panel. Original equipment relays of this type were yellow; current production is supplied in a black housing.

Frequently asked questions

What is this relay used for?
This is a 12V 40A normally open relay used across the body and engine electrical circuits. Energising the control coil closes the main contacts, letting a switch or module operate a high-current load such as the condenser fan, fuel pump, horn or heated front screen without the switch carrying the load current.
Which models does this relay fit?
This 40A relay fits the Defender (1987-2006) and Discovery 1 (1989-1998), plugging into a standard relay base in the fuse and relay panel. As a general-purpose make-contact relay, the same part serves several circuits, so match the amperage and contact type rather than the specific circuit.
My old relay is yellow but this one is black, is that correct?
Yes. Original equipment relays of this type were yellow, while current production is supplied in a black housing, so the colour difference is normal and doesn't affect function. This relay is superseded by LR126492. Match the 12V 40A normally open rating and standard base footprint to confirm fitment.
