Frequently asked questions

What is the STC3941B rear shock absorber used for?

It's the early-style rear shock absorber for the Range Rover Classic and early Discovery 1, damping movement at the rear axle. This version is a Boge unit sharing part number STC3941, using the early two-half bush upper eye mounting rather than a later bolt-in design.

Which vehicles is the STC3941B compatible with?

It's built for the Range Rover Classic up to VIN HA610293, very early Discovery 1 (1990), and 109-inch Series IIA models only. Later Discovery 1 and post-1970 Range Rover Classic models need a different shock absorber, so verify your VIN first.

How many shock absorbers do I need to replace at the rear?

Rear shock absorbers are sold and fitted individually, but it's best practice to replace both sides together. Replacing just one typically leaves uneven damping side to side, which can affect handling and tyre wear over time.

What are the signs a rear shock absorber like the STC3941B needs replacing?

Typical signs are a bouncy or wallowing ride, knocking over bumps, or visible oil weeping from the body. Shock absorbers usually fail gradually through seal wear rather than all at once, so a spongy ride is often the first clue.

What's the difference between the STC3941B and the STC3941 or STC3941GIRLING?

All three share the same fitment and base part number STC3941, differing only by make. STC3941B is a Boge unit, STC3941 is PR2 Pro, and STC3941GIRLING is a Girling unit. Fitment and function are identical between them.
