Anti-Squeal Shim - Set of 4 is a set of self-adhesive noise-dampening shims for disc brake pads.

Each shim is cut to shape and bonded to the steel backing plate of a brake pad before fitting, sitting between the pad and the caliper piston to damp the high-frequency vibration that causes brake squeal. The set is universal and covers four pads, front or rear. They are commonly used together with a ceramic brake lubricant such as Cera-Tec (DA2389).

What are these anti-squeal shims and what do they do?

How many pads does one set cover?
One set covers four pads, enough for one axle's worth of disc brakes, front or rear. A full front and rear refresh typically needs two sets. They're supplied as a set of four regardless of which axle you're working on.
Where do the shims fit on the brake pad?
The shim bonds to the outer face of the pad's steel backing plate, between the pad and the caliper piston or fingers. Fitting them there damps vibration at the pad-to-caliper contact, which is the usual source of disc brake squeal.
Do these fix brake squeal on their own?
Anti-squeal shims reduce squeal caused by pad vibration, but squeal can also come from glazed pads, worn caliper hardware or dry pad abutments. They're typically fitted alongside clean, correctly lubricated pad contact points for the best result.
