Cooling Fan for the engine cooling circuit, driven from the water pump pulley and drawing air through the radiator core.

The viscous coupling (fan drive) modulates fan speed with under-bonnet temperature, engaging the blades as cooling demand rises and freewheeling when it falls to reduce parasitic drag and noise. Fitted to the 4.0L and 4.6L V8 EFI petrol engine.

Supplied as a complete assembly including the viscous fan drive.
Vehicle Model Land Rover Discovery 2 1998-2004 (L318)
Range Rover Classic 1994-2001 (P38)
Fitment Notes DISCOVERY 2 1998-2004 — V8, viscous drive & cooling fan
RANGE ROVER P38 1994-2001 — 4.0L & 4.6L V8 EFI Petrol, viscous drive & cooling fan

Frequently asked questions

What is the ERR4960 cooling fan and what does it do?
The ERR4960 is the engine cooling fan for the 4.0 and 4.6L V8 EFI petrol, driven off the water pump pulley to pull air through the radiator. It's supplied as a complete assembly including the viscous fan drive.
Which models does this V8 cooling fan fit?
Fits the V8 EFI petrol engine in Discovery 2 (1998-2004) and Range Rover P38 (1994-2001, 4.0 and 4.6L). It's the Allmakes aftermarket assembly with the viscous coupling.
What does the viscous coupling do, and how does it fail?
The viscous coupling varies fan speed with under-bonnet temperature, engaging the blades as cooling demand rises and freewheeling when it drops. A failing coupling typically seizes, giving constant roar and drag, or slips, causing poor cooling in traffic.
Is the viscous fan drive included?
Yes, this fan is supplied as a complete assembly including the viscous fan drive, so you don't need to transfer the coupling from your old unit.
