Rear Outrigger - Right-Hand Side - the structural chassis outrigger for the right-hand (offside) rear of the chassis frame.

Outriggers are the lateral members welded out from the main chassis rails; they carry body mounting points and locate the rear of the body against the frame. Sitting low on the vehicle and directly exposed to road spray, they are among the first chassis sections to corrode. Replacement is a cut-and-weld repair - the failed section is removed and the new outrigger welded to the chassis rail.

Frequently asked questions

What is a rear outrigger, and what does it do?
The rear outrigger is a structural chassis outrigger that welds onto the main chassis rail, carrying body mounting points and locating the rear of the body against the frame. This is the right-hand (offside) rear outrigger for Discovery 2, 1998 to 2004.
Why do rear outriggers need replacing so often?
Outriggers sit low on the vehicle and are directly exposed to road spray, making them one of the first chassis sections to corrode. A rusted-through outrigger can no longer support the body mount above it, so replacement becomes necessary once corrosion breaks through the steel.
How is this outrigger fitted?
Fitting is a cut-and-weld repair. The corroded section of the original outrigger is cut away and this new outrigger is welded onto the chassis rail, so it needs welding equipment and is normally a job for a garage or chassis specialist rather than a home fit.
Does this outrigger fit other Land Rover models?
This outrigger is specific to the Discovery 2, built 1998 to 2004, on the right-hand (offside) rear of the chassis. It's not listed as fitting other Discovery generations or other Land Rover models.
