The pad locates in the caliper carrier and is clamped against the rotating brake disc under hydraulic pressure from the caliper piston, generating the friction that retards the rear axle.

Replace pads in axle sets so left and right braking effort remains even, and inspect the discs for scoring or lipping before fitting new pads.
