Crown wheel and pinion set with a 4.75:1 final drive ratio for the rear differential, long nose differential configuration. Tooth count is 38 on the crown wheel and 8 on the pinion.

The crown wheel and pinion form the final drive stage within the differential housing. The pinion is driven by the propshaft and turns the crown wheel, transmitting drive through 90 degrees to the differential carrier and on to the halfshafts. The lower ratio reduces the overall gearing between gearbox output and road wheels, which is commonly used to compensate for an increased tyre diameter. Front and rear differentials must run the same ratio.

Crown wheel and pinion are lapped together as a matched pair and must be fitted as a set, with pinion depth, bearing preload and backlash set on installation.
