Genuine Part
Genuine: Original manufacturer part. This product is the original part designed and produced by the vehicle manufacturer.
Crankshaft Pulley - for the 4.0L and 4.6L V8 EFI petrol engine.

Mounts to the nose of the crankshaft at the front of the engine and drives the accessory drive belt, which in turn drives the alternator, water pump, power steering pump and, where fitted, the air conditioning compressor.

The belt grooves and pulley face wear over time; a damaged pulley or one running out of true causes belt tracking problems and drive belt noise.

Frequently asked questions

What does the crankshaft pulley do on the P38 and Discovery 2 V8?
It mounts to the nose of the crankshaft and drives the accessory belt, which in turn drives the alternator, water pump, power steering pump and, where fitted, the air conditioning compressor.
Is the crankshaft pulley usually replaced on its own?
Yes, it's typically only replaced if damaged or running out of true, rather than as routine maintenance alongside the drive belt. A damaged pulley causes belt tracking problems and drive belt noise.
What tools are needed to remove the crankshaft pulley?
Removal needs the crank held stationary, usually with a flywheel locking tool, plus a pulley puller since it's a tight fit on the crank nose. It's not a job for basic hand tools alone.
Why does a crankshaft pulley wear out or fail?
The belt grooves and pulley face wear over time from constant belt contact, and a pulley running out of true typically causes belt squeal, tracking problems or vibration felt through the engine.
Which models use this crankshaft pulley?
It fits the Discovery 2 (1998-2004) and Range Rover P38 (1994-2001) with the 4.0L or 4.6L V8 EFI petrol engine. Confirm your engine size, since both models offered other engine options too.
