Flanged Hex Bolt securing the lower inlet manifold on the V8 EFI petrol engine.

The integral flange under the head spreads the clamping load across the manifold face without a separate washer, so the manifold gasket is compressed evenly along the joint. Several are used per manifold and they are tightened in the specified sequence and torque; a bolt with corroded or damaged threads, or one that has been stretched, should be renewed rather than refitted.
