Knock Sensor for V8 EFi petrol engines under Bosch engine management, mounted on the cylinder block as part of the ignition control circuit.
The sensor detects the vibration signature of detonation and reports it to the engine control module, which retards ignition timing to protect the engine. Two sensors are fitted per engine.
A fault in either sensor will normally set a knock sensor fault code and leave the module running a permanently retarded ignition map, with a noticeable loss of power and increased fuel consumption.
