Transmission Brake Drum for the LT230 transfer box transmission brake - the drum-type parking brake mounted on the transfer box rear output.

The drum is clamped between the rear output flange and the rear propshaft, and provides the friction surface for the transmission brake shoes. Because the transmission brake acts on the output shaft rather than on the wheels, the drum carries the full parking load through the driveline and sees concentrated heat if the brake is dragged or used to slow the vehicle.

Inspect the friction bore for scoring, ovality, glazing and heat cracking whenever the transmission brake shoes or the output flange oil seal are disturbed. A glazed or worn drum is a common cause of a parking brake that will not hold on a gradient.
