The STC50081 N-type towing socket provides the trailer lighting connection on Discovery 2 (1999-2004). It feeds the trailer's rear lamps, brake lamps, indicators and rear fog lamp through a single socket between the vehicle's towing electrics and the trailer plug.
Is any extra wiring needed to fit the towing socket?
No extra wiring is needed if your Discovery 2 (1999-2004) already has the factory towing electrics, as the STC50081 connects to the existing tow-electrics loom at its plug-in point. If the vehicle was never wired for towing, a wiring kit would be required first.
What does the N-type socket cover, and do I need a second socket?
The N-type socket handles the road-lighting circuits, rear lamps, brake lamps, indicators and fog lamp on Discovery 2 (1999-2004). It doesn't supply auxiliary caravan power such as a fridge or leisure battery. For those you'd typically also need the separate S-type socket.
