Part of the front coil spring suspension. The spring locates between the spring seat on the front axle and the chassis spring turret above it, supporting the static front axle load, setting ride height and working with the shock absorber and anti-roll bar to control body movement.

Wound to the standard height and standard load specification, so it suits a vehicle retaining standard ride height and standard-length dampers rather than a raised or heavy-duty setup. Settled front springs show up as reduced ride height, a harsher ride over compressions and uneven tyre wear; replace both sides together so that rate and height stay even across the axle.
