Secondary Air Injection Solenoid Valve for the secondary air injection system on 4.0L and 4.6L V8 EFI petrol engines.

The solenoid is energised by the engine management system during the cold start period and passes manifold vacuum through to the air injection control valve, which in turn admits air from the injection pump into the exhaust manifolds. The additional oxygen continues combustion of unburnt fuel in the exhaust, bringing the catalysts up to operating temperature more quickly. When the solenoid is de-energised the vacuum supply is cut and air injection stops.

A failed solenoid leaves air injection either permanently disabled or permanently on, and is a common cause of a secondary air system fault code.
