Fuel Filler Cap - sealing cap for the fuel tank filler neck.

Locates in the filler neck and seals against it, closing the tank and keeping water and dirt out of the filler. On vehicles built to North American specification the cap also forms part of the sealed evaporative emission circuit, so a hardened or split seal can allow vapour to escape and set an evaporative system fault.

Worth checking at each service: renew the cap if the seal is perished or split, if it no longer tightens and holds, or if there is a persistent fuel smell around the filler.
