Canister Vent Solenoid for the evaporative emission control (EVAP) system.

The solenoid controls the fresh-air vent side of the charcoal canister. In normal running it remains open so atmospheric air can enter the canister as stored fuel vapour is purged to the inlet manifold. The engine management system closes it to seal the evaporative circuit when carrying out an on-board leak-detection test, making the solenoid a required part of the emissions self-diagnostic function on petrol applications.
