The connecting rod bearings are the plain shell bearings at the big end of each connecting rod, running on the crankshaft rod journals. They carry the combustion and inertia loads from the pistons into the crankshaft and provide the running surface for the rod journals.

The 0.030 in undersize grade is matched to a crankshaft whose rod journals have been reground 0.030 in below standard diameter.
