Generations Overview The Discovery 5 in context
The Discovery 5 is the current full-size Discovery, launched in 2017 under chassis code L462. It is the first Discovery built on a unibody aluminium architecture, the JLR D7u platform, the same body structure that underpins the Range Rover L405 and Range Rover Sport L494. This is a separate vehicle from the smaller, transverse-engined Discovery Sport (L550), which is a compact crossover on the JLR PTA platform. Pre-facelift (2017 to 2020)
The launch engine range used the 3.0-litre AJD-V6 turbodiesel (TDV6 and SDV6 states of tune), the 2.0-litre Ingenium AJ200D four-cylinder turbodiesel (Sd4 and Td4), the 2.0-litre Ingenium AJ200 turbocharged petrol (Si4), and the 3.0-litre AJ126 supercharged V6 petrol.
Post-facelift (2021 model year onward)
The November 2020 facelift retired both V6 engines and the 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesels. The current range is the 3.0-litre Ingenium AJ20-D6 inline-six diesel MHEV and the 3.0-litre Ingenium AJ300 inline-six petrol MHEV. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system arrived with the facelift.

Genuine is appropriate for the air suspension, the active rear differential, the 8HP transmission, the MHEV 48V system, and emissions hardware on the AJD-V6 and AJ20-D6 diesels.
