Valve Seat Insert - Inlet is a machined ring pressed into the cylinder head to form the seating face for an inlet valve, used on the 2.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated and turbo diesel engines.

It provides the hardened surface against which the inlet valve closes, sealing the combustion chamber and conducting heat away from the valve into the cylinder head. Supplied individually; four inlet seat inserts are fitted per cylinder head.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ETC4643 inlet valve seat insert and what does it do?
The ETC4643 inlet valve seat insert is a machined ring pressed into the cylinder head that forms the seating face for an inlet valve. It gives the hardened surface the valve closes against, sealing the combustion chamber and carrying heat from the valve into the head. Fitted to the 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel engine.
How many ETC4643 inlet valve seat inserts are needed per engine?
Four ETC4643 inlet valve seat inserts are fitted per cylinder head on the 2.5L 4-cylinder diesel, so a full head rebuild needs four. They're supplied individually. The exhaust valve seats are typically a separate insert, so order inlet and exhaust seats to suit the work being done.
Which engine does the ETC4643 inlet valve seat fit?
The ETC4643 inlet valve seat insert fits the 2.5L 4-cylinder naturally aspirated and turbo diesel engines in the Defender (1987-2006). It's an inlet-specific seat, so confirm you need the inlet insert rather than the exhaust one before ordering.
Why would an inlet valve seat insert need replacing?
Inlet valve seat inserts typically need replacing during a cylinder head rebuild when the seats are worn, pitted, or recessed, or after a valve job where the originals can't be re-cut to spec. A worn seat stops the inlet valve sealing properly, which can cause compression loss. Pressing in new seats is specialist machine-shop work.
