The clip is the male part of a two-piece push-fit fastener. It locates in the trim panel and engages the matching female socket on the supporting structure, securing the panel without visible fixings.

Push-fit clips of this type are frequently broken or distorted when a panel is levered off, and are best renewed whenever the trim is disturbed. A missing or slack clip is a common source of dash rattles and squeaks.
