Door Check - the check strap assembly fitted between the rear door and the body pillar, within the door hinge and check assembly.

The check arm controls how far the door swings open and holds it at its intermediate and fully open detent positions. As the detent roller and its spring pack wear, the door stops cleanly at neither stage: it swings past its intended arc, falls shut when the vehicle is parked on a slope, or opens with an audible clunk instead of a progressive stop.

The check arm pivots on a bracket bolted to the body pillar and passes through the door shell, so the door trim panel must be removed to reach the retaining bolts on the door side.
