Leak Detection Pump - diagnostic module for the fuel tank evaporative emission (EVAP) system.

It sits in the EVAP circuit between the charcoal canister and atmosphere. During an engine-off self-test it seals the circuit, raises a small pressure in the fuel tank and vapour lines, and monitors the current drawn by its own motor. A pressure that will not build, or that decays once established, tells the engine management that a leak is present; the fault is stored and normally lights the malfunction indicator lamp.

Petrol V8 applications.

Frequently asked questions

What is the leak detection pump for?
The leak detection pump is the diagnostic module for the fuel tank evaporative emission (EVAP) system on the Range Rover L322. During an engine-off self-test it seals the EVAP circuit, raises a small pressure, and monitors its own motor current to detect leaks.
Which Range Rover L322 engines use this pump?
This leak detection pump fits the petrol V8 Range Rover L322 (2002-2012), covering the 4.2 supercharged, 4.4 EFI and 5.0 V8 applications. It's petrol-only, so confirm your L322 has a V8 petrol engine rather than a diesel before ordering.
What are the signs the leak detection pump has failed?
A failed leak detection pump typically shows as a stored evaporative emission fault and an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp on the L322. If the pump can't build or hold pressure during its self-test, the engine management reads it as an EVAP leak.
