ABS Modulator for the four-wheel anti-lock braking system, forming the hydraulic control unit of the ABS circuit.

The modulator sits between the master cylinder and the wheel brake circuits, housing the solenoid valves and pump that regulate brake-line pressure at each wheel. Under control of the ABS ECU it modulates pressure to prevent the wheels locking during heavy braking, maintaining steering control and braking stability. It is replaced when internal valve or pump faults, or hydraulic leaks, prevent correct ABS operation.

Frequently asked questions

What does the ABS modulator do?
The ABS modulator is the hydraulic control unit of the four-wheel ABS on the Discovery 2. It houses the solenoid valves and pump that regulate brake-line pressure at each wheel, and under the ABS ECU it modulates pressure to stop the wheels locking during heavy braking, keeping steering and stability.
Where is the ABS modulator fitted?
The ABS modulator sits in the engine bay between the master cylinder and the four wheel brake circuits on the Discovery 2. Brake lines from the master cylinder feed into it, and individual lines run out to each wheel, with the ABS ECU controlling its valves and pump.
Which part numbers can replace this modulator?
On the Discovery 2, this modulator interchanges with the alternative part numbers SRB101201, SRB101202 and SRB101203, which cover supersessions of the same four-wheel ABS unit. It fits the four-wheel ABS Discovery 2 from VIN 4A000001, so check your VIN to confirm the correct variant.
What are the signs the ABS modulator has failed?
A failed ABS modulator on the Discovery 2 typically shows as an ABS warning light, a pump that runs continuously, or loss of ABS function. Internal solenoid valve or pump faults, or hydraulic leaks at the unit, mean it can no longer regulate brake pressure and needs replacing.
