Front ABS wheel speed sensor, part of the four-wheel WABCO anti-lock braking system's sensing circuit. Catalogued under a sensor kit part number; the assembly is the speed sensor with its integral lead and connector.

The sensor locates in the front hub carrier and reads the toothed exciter ring on the hub, supplying the wheel speed signal the ABS control module uses to detect impending wheel lock and modulate brake pressure at that wheel.

One sensor is fitted at each front wheel. The sensor tip and its seat in the carrier should be cleaned of corrosion and debris before a new unit is fitted.

Frequently asked questions

What is the front ABS wheel speed sensor for?
The front ABS wheel speed sensor monitors front wheel rotation for the WABCO 4-wheel anti-lock braking system on the Freelander 1. It feeds wheel speed data to the ABS controller.
Which Freelander 1 does this fit, and from which VIN?
This front ABS sensor fits the Freelander 1 1997 to 2006, front position, from VIN 1A000001. It is for the WABCO 4-wheel ABS setup, so confirm your VIN and ABS type before ordering.
How many front ABS sensors do I need?
This is a front sensor, and there is typically one per front wheel. Order two if you are replacing both front corners on the Freelander 1.
What are the symptoms of a failed front ABS sensor?
A failed front ABS sensor triggers the ABS warning light and can disable anti-lock braking on the Freelander 1. Corrosion and wiring faults at the sensor are the usual causes.
