The caliper converts hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder into clamping force, pressing the brake pads against the disc. Its pistons and seals must move freely for the pads to apply and release cleanly, and the caliper must retract fully once pressure is removed.

A seized piston, a torn dust boot, corroded slide surfaces or a swollen flexible hose all produce the same family of symptoms: uneven pad wear, residual brake drag, pull to one side under braking and elevated disc temperatures.

Supplied as a caliper assembly. Renew the brake pads and check disc thickness and run-out when fitting, then bleed the circuit fully so no air remains in the caliper.
