The hose carries brake fluid across the moving joint between the rigid brake pipe on the body and the caliper on the suspension upright, flexing with suspension travel while containing full system pressure. It is a reinforced rubber hose with crimped end fittings.

Brake hoses deteriorate internally as well as externally: a swollen liner absorbs pedal travel and gives a soft pedal under pressure, while a delaminated liner can act as a one-way valve and hold the brake partially applied after the pedal is released. Replace in axle pairs and bleed the circuit thoroughly after fitting.
