Front flexible brake hose from the front brake hydraulic circuit, connecting the rigid brake pipe carried on the body to the front caliper.

The flexible section is what allows the caliper to follow suspension travel and steering movement while still containing full braking line pressure. It is built from a pressure-resistant inner tube with braided reinforcement and an abrasion-resistant outer cover, terminated in swaged end fittings.

Brake hoses deteriorate internally as well as externally. Internal delamination can act as a one-way restriction that makes a brake drag or release slowly, and this is not visible from the outside. Cracking, bulging under pressure, chafe damage or corrosion at the swaged ends all call for replacement. Renew hoses in axle pairs and bleed the circuit thoroughly afterwards.
