The dipped beam is produced by a high-intensity discharge (xenon) projector. The assembly forms part of the Adaptive Front Lighting system, in which an actuator swivels the projector module against steering angle and road speed so that the beam follows the road ahead through a bend.

Discharge lighting requires automatic beam-height correction, actuated by a levelling motor at the headlamp and driven from the vehicle's levelling sensors and lighting control module; the ballast and igniter that strike and regulate the arc are matched to the lamp. The direction indicator (front flasher) and position lamp are carried in the same housing.

Optics are configured for left-hand-drive vehicles, with the dipped beam biased towards the right-hand side of the road.
