Tailgate Strut - Electric - powered lift strut in the electrically operated tailgate mechanism.

The strut supports the weight of the tailgate and drives it through its opening and closing travel under control of the tailgate control module, in place of the purely gas-charged strut used on a manually operated tailgate. It mounts between the body aperture and the tailgate frame.

A failing strut typically shows as a tailgate that drops or will not hold position, slow or uneven travel, or a cycle that aborts part-way and reverts to manual operation.
