Rear Spring Isolator - the moulded rubber pad fitted between the rear road spring and its seat in the rear suspension spring and damper assembly.

It separates the coil end face from the metal spring pan, preventing metal-to-metal contact and stopping suspension noise and high-frequency vibration being carried into the body. It also keeps the spring end from fretting the seat face, which is where corrosion of the pan usually starts.

Isolators harden, flatten and break up with age. Renew them whenever the rear springs or spring pans are disturbed; the companion upper spring pan is MMD3563AA.
