Top Spring Seat - the upper seat for the coil road spring within the spring and damper assembly.

It sits between the top coil of the road spring and the upper mounting, locating the spring concentrically on the damper and transferring spring load into the body mounting. The seat also isolates the spring end from the mounting face, preventing the metal-to-metal contact that produces knocking and creaking once the original seat has hardened or worn.

The seat is reached only with the spring and damper assembly removed from the vehicle and the spring safely compressed, so it is usually renewed alongside the damper and upper mount.
