Crankcase Breather Tube - a hose in the crankcase emission control (crankcase ventilation) system on petrol engines.

The tube routes blow-by gases that have passed the piston rings from the cylinder head cover back into the induction system, where they are drawn in and burned with the normal intake charge. That path maintains a slight depression in the crankcase; when the tube splits, collapses or clogs with oil residue, crankcase pressure rises and shows as oil misting past the seals, a rough idle or drifting fuel trims.
