Air charge temperature sensor from the charge air system of the 2.2L four-cylinder diesel, mounted in the throttle housing.
Measures the temperature of the pressurised air leaving the intercooler as it enters the inlet tract, and passes that signal to the engine control module. The module combines charge air temperature with mass air flow and boost pressure to calculate air density, and trims fuelling, boost control and exhaust gas recirculation accordingly.
A drifting or open-circuit sensor typically shows as a stored fault code together with poor running, reduced boost or increased smoke. Check the connector and its terminals for corrosion when replacing the sensor.
