Brand Autotec Components
Crankshaft Position Sensor for the Ingenium engine family, mounted in the timing cover and reading the toothed reluctor ring on the crankshaft.

The sensor supplies the engine control module with crankshaft rotational speed and angular position. The ECM uses that signal to set injection and ignition timing, to synchronise the crankshaft with the camshaft position signal, and to detect misfires.

A failing sensor typically presents as a no-start, an intermittent stall while driving, or rough running with a stored crankshaft position fault code.

Frequently asked questions

What does the LR126181 crankshaft position sensor do?
The LR126181 crankshaft position sensor reads the toothed reluctor ring on the crankshaft and feeds rotational speed and angle to the engine control module. The ECM uses that signal to time fuel injection and ignition. It fits the Ingenium engine family across the Defender L663, Discovery 5 and Range Rover L460.
Where is the crankshaft position sensor located?
The crankshaft position sensor mounts in the timing cover, reading the reluctor ring on the crankshaft. On the Ingenium engines used in the Discovery Sport, Evoque L551 and Velar it is a compact sensor typically accessed at the front of the engine.
What are the symptoms of a failing crankshaft position sensor?
A failing crankshaft position sensor typically causes hard starting, stalling, misfires or a no-start, often with an engine warning light. On the Ingenium petrol and diesel engines in these models, the ECM cannot time injection without a clean signal, so the car may cut out.
Can this sensor be replaced at home?
Replacing the crankshaft position sensor is typically a straightforward job of unbolting the sensor and unplugging its connector, once you can reach the timing cover. Access varies by engine bay on the Defender L663, Discovery 5 and Range Rover L460, so a DIYer with basic tools can usually manage it.
