Intercooler (charge air cooler) for the turbocharger induction circuit, mounted at the front of the vehicle within the cooling pack airflow.

Compressing intake air in the turbocharger raises its temperature and lowers its density. The intercooler sits between the compressor outlet and the intake manifold and passes the charge air through a finned core cooled by ambient airflow, restoring density before the air reaches the engine. Cooler, denser charge air supports more complete combustion and holds intake temperatures down under sustained boost.

Impact damage from road debris, a split end tank, a leaking core seam, or oil carry-over collecting inside the core after turbocharger seal wear are the usual reasons for replacement. A leaking intercooler shows as reduced boost pressure, loss of power under load and boost-related fault codes.

For the 2.0L four-cylinder Ingenium AJ200 diesel engine.

Check the charge air hoses, their clamps and the sealing faces when fitting, since a hose leak produces the same symptoms as a failed core.
