Drive Belt Idler Pulley - a non-driven guide pulley in the accessory drive belt system of the 3.0L AJ20P6 six-cylinder petrol engine.

The idler guides the ribbed poly-V accessory belt between the crankshaft pulley and the driven accessories, holding the correct wrap angle around each pulley and supporting the free span so that belt flutter is controlled. It turns on a sealed ball bearing carried in the pulley body, is not adjustable, and takes no drive load itself.

A worn idler shows itself as bearing rumble or a squeal that follows engine speed, a pulley face that runs out of true, or a belt that tracks to one side and wears at the edge. The bearing is not serviceable, so the pulley is replaced complete; inspect the accessory belt at the same time and renew it if it is glazed, cracked or has lost rib profile.
