Crankshaft Position Sensor for the 2.0L 16V Ti-VCT turbocharged petrol engine (240PS). It mounts in the block adjacent to the crankshaft reluctor ring and forms part of the engine management sensor circuit.

The sensor reads the tooth pattern of the reluctor ring as the crankshaft turns and returns a signal from which the engine control module derives engine speed and exact crankshaft angle. That signal is the timing reference for ignition and fuel injection, and - read together with the camshaft position sensor - for establishing engine synchronisation.

A failing sensor typically presents as a crank-no-start, an intermittent stall, or a misfire that appears with no other supporting fault.
