Crankshaft Position Sensor for engine management, mounted in the lower cylinder block and oil pan area facing the crankshaft reluctor ring.

As the reluctor teeth pass the sensor tip it generates the signal the engine control module uses to establish crankshaft speed and angular position. That reference governs ignition and injection timing and overall engine synchronisation; without a valid signal the engine will not run.
