Air conditioning compressor with clutch for the 2.0L Td4 BMW M47 diesel engine, acting as the pump in the air conditioning refrigerant circuit.

Driven from the engine by the auxiliary drive belt, the compressor raises low-pressure refrigerant vapour returning from the evaporator to high pressure and passes it to the condenser. The integral electromagnetic clutch engages and disengages the drive as the air conditioning system cycles.

The JPB500120G is the AC compressor and clutch for the Freelander 1's 2.0 Td4 BMW M47 diesel engine. It's driven off the auxiliary belt and pumps refrigerant vapour up to high pressure before sending it to the condenser. The integral clutch engages and disengages the drive as the air con cycles.
Why does the Td4 Freelander 1 air con compressor fail?
These compressors typically fail from clutch bearing wear or the electromagnetic clutch losing its grip, both signs the compressor needs replacing.
