Exhaust Valve for the cylinder head valvetrain of the 2.5L KV6 V6 petrol engine.

The exhaust valve seals the exhaust port against its seat in the cylinder head and opens to release the combustion gases into the exhaust manifold. It runs considerably hotter than the inlet valve and sheds much of that heat through the valve seat and the valve guide. The stem is sealed by a valve stem seal and the valve is held closed by the valve spring, collets and spring retainer.

Because the valve, its seat and its guide wear as a set, valve seating and guide clearance should be checked whenever a cylinder head is dismantled.

Sold individually.

Frequently asked questions

What does the exhaust valve do on the Freelander 1 2.5L KV6 engine?
It seals the exhaust port in the cylinder head and opens on each cycle to release burnt gases into the exhaust manifold. Fitted to the 2.5L KV6 V6 petrol engine, it runs hotter than the intake valve and sheds heat through its seat and guide.
How many exhaust valves does a KV6 engine need?
The 2.5L KV6 is a 24-valve V6 with two exhaust valves per cylinder, so a full set across the engine is typically twelve. This valve is sold individually, so order enough for the cylinders you're working on.
What's involved in fitting a new exhaust valve?
Fitting means pulling the cylinder head and using a valve spring compressor to remove the collets, spring and old valve. It's a specialist head-off job, and the valve seat is usually recut or lapped afterwards to restore the seal.
Why does an exhaust valve wear out?
Exhaust valves take constant combustion heat and impact against their seat, which causes seat recession and gas leakage over time. This typically shows up as a rough idle or low compression on that cylinder, so check the guide for wear too.
Does this valve fit all Freelander 1 engines?
No, it's specific to the 2.5L KV6 V6 petrol engine with automatic transmission. Freelander 1s with the 1.8L K-Series petrol or 2.0L diesel use a different exhaust valve, so confirm your engine code before ordering.
